EnglishYour child will be tested at the end of the year for Reading, Writing and grammar in the KS2 SAT's. These will take place in May 2013.
Reading It is vitally important that your child reads regularly this year. They will need to improve upon their speed of reading and in their ability to comprehend what they are reading. When they answer questions, these will be based on retrieval, inference or reasoning. Your child will be bringing home a reading record book where they must record when they have read. They will also be encouraged to answer 3 questions every time that they read and to record their answers in their books. Writing Your child will be aware of their current level. They are aiming for a level 4B which is the National Average, at the end of year 6. Some children will be achieving level 5 by the end of the year which is above average. There will be regular opportunities for your child to write at home, when they will need to also think about their handwriting as this will also be tested at the end of the year. Spelling There will be spellings given out at the start of the year which are the recommended spellings for year 6. It is important that your child practices the spelling patterns which will be given during the year. Grammar This year there is a new grammar test which has never been done before. We are teaching grammar regularly in lessons and there may be some homework related to it. Here are some of the things your child will be expected to know for the test.
